Jul 14, 2022 Ā· The 0W-30 is recommended for arctic areas, 10W-30 for standard use, while 5W-40 is best for ā€œsevereā€ duty applications – towing and hauling. Ford’s recommendations do not apply to every vehicle, but at least you get the idea of how different oil grades can be used in different applications. 0W20 vs 5W30 – Which One Is Better? Jun 12, 2023 Ā· 0W-30 oil is a type of motor oil that can be used where a 5W-30 or 10W-30 is recommended. It is a synthetic oil that is designed to provide better protection for engines in cold weather conditions. This oil is also said to provide better fuel economy and emissions performance. So, when should you use 0W-30 oil? Can I use 10W 40 instead of 5W-30? Jun 1, 2023 Ā· 0w16 is more expensive than 0w20 Oil. Between 0w-16 and 0w-20 viscosity oils, 0w16 is more costly. The Oil is very thin, making it excellent for fuel efficiency. However, light Oil can’t properly lubricate the engine’s moving parts. Therefore, thinner oils are formulated to provide maximum fuel efficiency and safety. Nov 29, 2017 Ā· Using light oil on the older cars was maybe good for a couple passes down the track to lessen the lag on the engine, but you’d get seriously blow-by and have to top back off. If the tolerances are tighter, the lighter weight oil will last. It’s not that the heavier weight oil won’t work, but it may be unnecessary. Dec 14, 2017 Ā· 105 posts Ā· Joined 2017. #9 Ā· Dec 15, 2017 (Edited) Guys, when the engine is warm - regardless of the 0 or 5 the grade starts with, it runs as a 20 weight (give or take an insignificant difference). A 0W20 is perhaps likely to sheer more than a 5W20, but in normal conditions and normal change intervals, this is irrelevant. Feb 24, 2021 Ā· Until I am shown differently, I am convinced that use of 0W20 is risking long-term engine wear protection. Certainly, the cold temperature qualities of the the 0Wxx is no doubt a very good thing . On "cold start" the less viscous oil should reach the critical lubricated parts faster, and certainly have much better lubricating qualities than an JWpM.
